Exposure to sunlight appears to make the patches worse, Melasma is generally thought to be hormonally triggered and more typically occurs in women. It is often worse during and after pregnancy. It sometimes referred to as the “mask of pregnancy”. Melasma typically begins gradually, but will become more pronounced over time if not treated.
Melasma can be successfully managed through a multi pronged treatment approach. We are able to prevent mild cases of melasma from worsening and successfully reverse more pronounced cases.
There are a variety of treatment options available. The use of topical lightening regimes along with resurfacing lasers and micro-needling with PRP have all been used in combination to help reduce Melasma.
